COVID-19 is an infectious disease that is transmitted from person to person, usually through respiratory droplets. Respiratory droplets can be spread when someone speaks, coughs, or sneezes, which is why health experts are recommending you wear a mask in public spaces.
Symptoms of COVID-19 typically appear within two weeks of contracting the virus and can include: fever, cough, shortness of breath, fatigue, headache, sore throat, or nausea/vomiting. Many people also lose their sense of taste and/or smell.
If you or your loved one are experiencing serious complications from their symptoms, like persistent chest pain or difficulty breathing, call your medical provider immediately. They may recommend emergency treatment.
A clinical research study tests the safety and effectiveness of a new medicine or treatment in a population of volunteers. Every medical breakthrough goes through the clinical study process. Therefore, participants like you play a very important role in advancing medicine for present and future generations.
